This quote sums up my site quite well.
(It’s not my quote by the way, but it works a treat).
“For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin – real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life” ~ Alfred D Souza ~
Time for reflection…
When you hit “that” age, and it really doesn’t have to be 40, you “reflect”.
It is so easy to have regrets and to consider those past years as wasted. The things that you could have done. Things that you would have done, and of course, the things that you should have done. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, as they say.
Those metaphorical bricks are your life experiences, which built the house in which you live. Some were good, some were bad, some were just…well, all of them made you the person you are today. All of them will decide what you do from here on in. Treat yourself to a new frame of mind.
It’s not the end, not a time to get depressed, it’s a time to start doing, start living and start appreciating all and everything that got you this point, and all that you can do from this point onwards. The time for regret is over, it’s in the past. Appreciate the past for what it is, and for what it has made you, and leave it there. Embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. Make opportunities if you can’t quite see them.
Let the journey begin…Treat Yourself…
This isn’t just about being 40+, it’s about the journey to, and the journey beyond. The keyword being journey. Life begins at Forty is an old cliché, or is it? That point of reflection and self evaluation is very real. Treat it with the respect it deserves. Learn from it. Make it count.
Your life’s journey doesn’t have to be one straight road. Sometimes, if you don’t see a turn off ahead… CREATE ONE! As the saying goes, “when life throws you lemons, make lemonade.”
Do something new every day. Plan an event. Mark a calendar. Give yourself something to look forward to. A new goal, a target.
